Tom Albanese is an expert on international metals and mining sector, who served as CEO of Rio Tinto from 2007 to 2013.

Tom joined Rio Tinto in 1993 when the company acquired NERCO, of which he was then CEO. Before becoming CEO of the Rio Tinto Group, he held a series of management positions throughout the company, including: Chief Executive of the Industrial Minerals group (from 2000), Chief Executive of the Copper group (from 2004) and simultaneously the position of Head of Exploration.

He has also held a number of other positions in the industry. He served on the board of Ivanhoe Mines as director (2006-07) and Palabora Mining Company (2004-06). Member of the executive committee of the international Copper Association (2004-06) and member of the board of visitors, Duke University, Fuqua School of Business from 2009.
